Watching live TV
Find your way around with the remote, change channel, and use the quick guide and playback controls.
Finding your way around#
Buna TV opens on live TV. The rest of the app lives in the menu down the left side of the screen. Press Back until the menu appears, move up and down to choose a section, and press OK.
| Live TV | Live channels, the TV guide and catch-up. |
| Movies | Your service's films. |
| Series | Your service's TV shows, by season and episode. |
| My List | Favourite channels, saved films and shows, reminders and what you were watching. |
| Recordings | Scheduled and finished recordings. |
| Multi-view | Several channels on screen at once. |
| Search | Find channels, programmes, films and series. |
| Settings | Playlists, playback, guide, recording, remote, parental controls, backup. |
Moving with the remote#
- ↑ ↓ ← → move the highlight.
- OK chooses what's highlighted.
- Hold OK (press and keep it down for about a second) opens an options menu for the highlighted item almost everywhere: channels, groups, programmes, films, recordings.
- Back closes whatever is open, one step at a time. It never jumps you somewhere unexpected.
What happens at start-up#
By default Buna TV picks up the last channel you watched. You can change this under Settings › Interface › On startup to open the channel list, the TV guide, or the menu instead.
Watching live TV#
Live TV fills the screen. Everything else (channel lists, the guide, controls) appears over the picture when you ask for it and disappears again on its own.
Changing channel#
- ↑ and ↓, or CH+ and CH−, step through the channels in the current group.
- Type a channel number on the remote's number keys to go straight to it.
- Press ← to open the quick guide and pick from the list (see below).
Each time you change channel, an information bar shows the channel, the programme on now with its progress, and what's on next. Press Info to show or hide it.
The quick guide#
Press ← while watching. The quick guide opens on the channel you're watching, without stopping the picture:
- The channel column: move up and down, and the picture previews the highlighted channel. Press OK to watch it.
- Press → to see that channel's schedule for later, and the highlighted programme's details.
- Press ← from the channel column to open the groups, such as Favorites, History, All channels and your service's own groups.
The playback controls#
Press OK while watching to bring up the controls bar along the bottom of the screen:
| Play / Pause | Pause live TV and pick up where you paused, where your service supports it. |
| Rewind / Forward 10 seconds | Skip back or forward. |
| Watch from start | Restart the programme on now (needs catch-up from your service). |
| Back to live | Return to the live broadcast after pausing or rewinding. |
| Record | Record this channel now. Choose again to stop. |
| Favourite | Add or remove this channel from Favorites. |
| Audio / Subtitles | Choose a language or subtitle track, when the channel has more than one. |
| Aspect ratio | Fit, Fill, Zoom, Stretch, 16:9 or 4:3. |
| Playback speed | For catch-up, films and recordings. |
Player options#
Hold OK while watching for the options panel:
- Go to: Quick Guide, Multi-view, Recordings, Search, Settings.
- This channel: open it in another player app, or switch to picture-in-picture.
- Picture & sound: video and audio tracks, audio delay, speed, and a sleep timer that stops playback after a set time.
When a channel won't play#
If a stream stops, Buna TV tries to reconnect by itself and shows how many attempts it has made. If it gives up, it tells you why in plain words, for example the provider isn't responding, or the channel may be off air, and offers Try again, Change channel and TV guide. See Troubleshooting for more.
